The Siganto Fellowship artist book series 2016 kicks off on the 17th of April.

From 10am-1pm experience a close encounter with the work of past and present Siganto Foundation Fellows in the White Gloves Room, level 4.  The display will include research papers, artist books, drawings, letterpresses and prints.  No bookings required.

Then journey downstairs at 1:30pm to level 1, to the Knowledge Walk Stage at the front of the Library Book Shop, to enjoy a live performance by Clyde McGill.  Clyde’s performance in the Siganto Foundation Artists’ Book Seminar last year was delightful and we are looking forward to another fantastic experience this year.

From 2pm-3.30pm enjoy listening to our guest, UK artist and designer, Guy Begbie and Dr Victoria Cooper.  During this lecture, Guy Begbie will talk about his current interdisciplinary arts practice while Dr Victoria Cooper, the 2015 Siganto Foundation Fellow, will talk about her research into the use of montage in the State Library of Queensland’s artists’ book collection.  Bookings are essential.

Mingle at 3.30pm and enjoy refreshments on level 3, the Platform, before sauntering back to the Whites Glove Room, level 4, for a final look at the fantastic items on display from 3.30pm-4.30pm.

The event continues over the next couple of days with a 2 day beginner’s workshop 18-19 April from 9.30am-4pm and a 3 day masterclass 20-22 April from 9.30am-4pm presented by Guy Begbie.

In the beginner’s workshop participants will make works such as pamphlet books, concertina books and a multi section case bound book. The 2 day workshop costs $100 & is limited to 15 participants.  Please submit your expression of interest to ALAfellowship@slq.qld.gov.au

In the masterclass participants will investigate and make non-linear narrative and sculptural/architectural free standing book structures as platforms for display.  The class costs $150 & is limited to 15 participants.  Please submit your expression of interest to ALAfellowship@slq.qld.gov.au

All event activities are held at the State Library of Queensland.  For further information please call 07 3842 9353.

Since 2012 the Siganto Foundation has provided an opportunity for the State Library of Queensland to support eight Australian book artists to research or create artists’ books using SLQ collections.  The library is grateful to the Siganto Foundation for their support which has made these programs possible.
