How do you start your day? Do you rise with the sun or sleep until the last second? Either way there's a yoga routine that will work for you! Find out more on Wednesday 21 June, International Day of Yoga.

Initiated by the United Nations (UN) to recognise the physical, mental and spiritual benefits of a yoga practice, International Day of Yoga seeks to invite people from all corners of the globe to celebrate the power of yoga to transform our inner and outer lives. Here at State Library of Queensland we are inspired by the UN's Sustainable Development Goals, in particular Goal 3 Good Health & Wellbeing. Yoga is something we've even tried ourselves, hosting a yoga series in our beautiful exhibition gallery in 2018.
As we come into winter and it gets harder and harder to salute the sun, now is the best time to start a yoga routine that is kind to your body and your soul. If you want to learn more about yoga, there are three ways State Library can assist you. We have information in a format fit for everyone!

Gale Health & Wellness database (online): Gale Health & Wellness database contains magazine and journal articles promoting the use of yoga in everything from back pain to mental health. But what we love most about this database is its collection of yoga videos! You can skip going to the gym or going to class and do yoga from the comfort of your loungeroom, especially on those chilly mornings when you don't feel like leaving the house.
-
eBooks (online): Our ebook collection has close to 100 titles about yoga. From Yoga for beginners to Teachings of Tibetan yoga you'll find what you need, whether you're a seasoned yogi or just starting out on your yoga journey.
-
Books (print): If you prefer print over online, we also have over 150 yoga books that you can borrow from State Library when you become a member and show proof of address in Queensland. Print books can give you a chance to really settle in and absorb yoga teachings while bringing you new information that will enhance your yoga practice.
After the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic have been felt around the world, the UN has emphasised just how much yoga helps to allay emotional suffering and mental anguish. It really is seen as a good way to increase your wellbeing and happiness. And if you’re stuck finding yoga inspiration, why not Ask a Librarian? We can provide help in finding resources. Start your yoga journey with State Library today!
