Queensland Literary Awards 2018 winners announced

The Queensland Literary Awards are managed by State Library of Queensland to honour outstanding books by Australian authors and champion new writing from young and emerging Queensland writers. Prizes are awarded across 14 categories in fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and published and unpublished works.
Adult awards go to non-fiction titles
Beth Wilson won The Courier-Mail People’s Choice Queensland Book of the Year Award for her book Brisbane Houses with Gardens ... an unprecedented history of the Brisbane domestic landscape from pre-1823 to the present day: a fascinating and revealing history of the city through the evolution of its homes and gardens.

Jackie Ryan’s We'll Show the World: Expo 88 won the Queensland Premier’s Award for a Work of State Significance. Judges praised the meticulous and amusing account of the event that forever shifted perceptions of the sunshine state
Young people’s awards
Peter Carnavas was awarded the Griffith University Children’s Book Award for The Elephant for a work suitable for children up to 12 years old by an Australian writer. Cally Black won the Griffith University Young Adult Book Award for young adults aged 13 to 19 for In the Dark Spaces.

The 2018 Queensland Literary Awards mark 30 years of the David Unaipon Award for an unpublished Indigenous writer. Kristie Parker has won the award for The Making of Ruby Champion.
