Q ANZAC 100 at Logan

By Marg Powell, Specialist Library Technician, Metadata Services | 17 April 2015

What a great experience was had at Logan with the Q ANZAC 100 team ...Q ANZAC 100 delivered the first of its scheduled workshops, last month at Logan Central Library, as part of its Regional Delivery Program.

The first event on 24 March was the First World War Treasures: a white gloves experience. It was a unique opportunity for a hands-on look at some of State Library's precious original materials. Letters, diaries and photographs were displayed and discussed with a collection specialist and workshop participants.

That same day a Conservation Clinic - Caring for your First World War collections was held with a conservator from the State Library for members of the local community. Not quite an 'antiques road show' but members of the public were invited to bring in their treasures where they received valuable advice on how to preserve them for future generations.

This delightful collection pictured above, of postcards, letters, a diary and photographs was later donated to the State Library. It will be fully catalogued and digitised, so that many others can share these families' memories.

The second event held over two days on 31st March & 1st April, was designed for heritage workers, on how to Promote and share your collections online. Participants were introduced to a range of online tools to promote and share their collections with the wider community. These tools included using Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, Historypin and the value of blog posts.

Just for attending a lucky participant of the first event, received one of these photo-safe albums as a 'door prize'.

The next series of workshops will be held at Maryborough from 21st to 23 April 2015. You can read more about the event via their blog, and for bookings and information about these activities see the Q ANZAC website.Q ANZAC 100: Memories for a New Generation shares untold stories, commemorates our state's past and captures contemporary and living memories of Queensland's experiences during and after the First World War.
