Premier's Reading Challenge starts soon!

Ready, set, read! Jump into the wonderful world of books and register now for the 2024 Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC).

Children and students up to Year 9 can participate by reading 15 or 20 books between 7 May to 23 August. This annual statewide initiative is open to those attending Queensland state and non-state schools, home-educated students from Prep to Year 9, as well as children, (aged up to 5 years) enrolled in an early childhood centre. The PRC aims to improve literacy and encourage children to read for pleasure and learning.

Benefits 

The many life-long benefits of reading include better vocabulary, wider knowledge, improved writing skills and greater imagination.

Students are encouraged to select a range of fiction and non-fiction books suited to their reading ability. There is no set reading list but if you need some  great titles you'll find plenty on the teacher librarian created book list, with something to please everyone.

Readers who complete the challenge will receive a Certificate of Achievement as a reward for effort. There are also multiple book vouchers up for grabs, so get in quick!

Free resources

The website has a great range of new and exciting marketing material including bookmarks and posters to inspire young challengers. There is a whole promo kit for schools including social media tiles, newsletter images a fence sign and more!

Families can take part in this important and much-loved program by reading together at home and celebrating reading success.

For a great selection of reading material visit your local Queensland public library. Library staff can help you choose a book. The wide range of resources includes picture books, novels, ebooks, eaudiobooks, graphic novels, magazines, as well as books in braille and other languages.
