Night by the Fire - Arkie Barton

By Administrator | 4 May 2016

Blog written by Lara Croydon

Night by the Fire has officially kicked off! Last night we were joined by Arkie Barton from the self-titled label ARKIE. Arkie shared how she makes her garments as well as her inspirations and goals as an Indigenous designer. We were also very lucky that Arkie also brought with her some of her work to get a closer look at. She shared with us the story of her prints and fabrics as well. Many of the prints she uses are of her own design and reflect her home and her culture.

We are so excited that our very own Leecee (aka) Elisa Jane Carmichael will be the next speaker in this fashion series. Through her work, she visually explores the beauty of nature and surrounding environments across a range of mediums, drawing inspiration from her cultural identity and heritage. She works in array of colours and materials weaving her family’s connection to country through paints and fibres. Leecee's creative works and collaborations have been exhibited broadly through Australia and internationally throughout England, the United States of America, Belgium, India and Singapore so we are very excited to have her on board for this conversation!
