Moreton Bay Supporting Local Authors

Moreton Bay Region Libraries will extend their support of local writers with the aid of a State Library of Queensland (State Library) Realising Our Potential  Micro Grant which will enable the purchase of a professional PA system and lectern for use in the libraries’ new Open Mic events where local writers present sections of their work to an audience each month, and then published authors are then able to offer their works for sale. Open Mic is a collaboration between the Redcliffe Library and the Redcliffe Writers’ Group and occurs monthly at the Redcliffe library.

Three published authors and three unpublished authors have 15 minutes each to read sections of their work to an audience comprised of other authors, the Redcliffe Writers’ Group and members of the public.

Published authors may pre-register to read, and unpublished authors may register on the evening to read. Audience members are always welcome and are not required to register to attend. Open Mic is beginning to attract the attention of new authors such as Nick White, author of Kat, the legend of Gnawbonia and established authors such as Bev Floyd. Equipment purchased with the Realising Our Potential  Micro Grant will facilitate the expansion of this event.
