Love at the library

By Administrator | 6 August 2013

The SLQ building at South Bank harbours many secrets and splendours that visitors seek out… books that will always be on site; librarians with more knowledge than Google; river views; rare, original Queensland treasures; a quiet place to study; Friday afternoon music sessions; and of course free wi-fi.

But for two out-of-the-ordinary library-goers, SLQ became a place to find something more: true love.

Reuben and Allison originally met online and bonded instantly over a mutual love of books, reading, and all things literary.  The pair had been emailing back and forth for just one week before they both felt the spark of something more, and agreed to meet in person.  The site of their first date?  SLQ!  Having spent a great deal of time at State Library during his student days, Reuben chose to bring Alli along to the building that he had always loved and felt at home in.

The couple wandered around the building, admiring the architecture as Reuben shared with Alli some of his favourite spaces, in particular the Red Box overhanging the Brisbane River.  They made their way into the Floodlines exhibition in SLQ Gallery, and eventually down into The Library Café where they enjoyed coffee as dusk descended over the city, and talked until closing.  It was only when the pair were asked to leave by Café staff that they realised they had spent the entire day together in what had evolved into the perfect date.

From the very first date things could only go uphill, and Reuben and Alli returned several months later as an ecstatic engaged couple to have their engagement shoot.  The pair will officially tie the knot in 2 weeks’ time, after kick-starting their romantic story right here at SLQ.

Congratulations Reuben and Allison!
