Logan Tellin' Country

By Administrator | 17 July 2014

These past school holidays, Amanda Hayman and I facilitated stop animation workshops at the Logan Central Library.  The children participating in the workshops were involved in every step of the process. The animation was based a local story of the Logan/Gold Coast area told by Rory O'Connor of the Yugambeh Museum.

Children drew their own characters to illustrate the story, and then uploaded them into Photoshop where they were coloured and printed onto card.  Children then worked together to paint  backdrops. They also acted out and filmed using iPads. The workshop utilised many different mediums in telling a story - including oral storytelling, drama, drawing, and painting. It is fantastic to see children work so successfully across these many different forms of communicating - ancient and new.  Thanks to all the children and parents involved. Thanks also to the Logan Central Library who provided such a fantastic venue for this program - if you haven't checked out the Logan Central Library - it's the first time I have visited, the staff are very friendly, it has fantastic resources and is well worth a visit!
