Leading the way with diversity

The Arts Council of England is investing in libraries, welcoming six new library services into its national portfolio fund in 2018.  The libraries funded this year were chosen as champions of diversity, whose work is also redefining what a library is, and what it can be.

Across the country, theatre, comedy, music, dance, visual arts, writing, creative and participatory arts are being delivered in libraries, enabling audiences to reflect on the rich and diverse community that is 21st Century England. 

Portfolio funded organisations are responding  to the Arts Council’s ‘Creative Case for Diversity’, a framework exploring how cultural organisations and artists can enrich the work they do by embracing a wide range of influences and practices; with libraries increasingly engaged with artists and creators to enrich their local program.
