Indigenous Australian, James BLACKLOCK, Depot Battalion
James Thomas BLACKLOCK, was born at Coonamble, NSW in 1884 to Thomas John Blacklock and Isabella Dingwell. He was employed as a shearer at Mungindi, Queensland when he volunteered to serve in the first AIF on 21 May 1918, age 34.
Despite passing the initial stages of enlistment, James Blacklock was never given the opportunity to serve for his country; he was discharged as 'medically unfit' two weeks later, his papers noted that he had spent some time in a psychiatric hospital in Goulburn.
James Blacklock married Eva Lillian Dobson in 1922 and moved to Redfern with his family where he resided until his death in 1962.
