By Marg Powell, Specialist Library Technician, Metadata Services | 7 January 2019

The Hinchinbrook Shire Council was the proud recipient of a Queensland Anzac Centenary Spirit of Service grant which facilitated the creation of the first Digital Honour Roll in Queensland which has taken just a little over two years to come to fruition.

Inspired by the servicemen who originated from the Hinchinbrook Shire it commemorates those who marched off to World War 1, exhibiting the values of courage, integrity, resilience, mateship, duty and sacrifice.

Hector Harrison, Frederick Barnes, David Baxter

The project was overseen by a committee, and supported by others from the Gilroy Santa Maria College World War 1 Project Link Club, 31st Royal Queensland Regiment Battalion Association, Rotary Club of Hinchinbrook, Herbert River RSL, Hinchinbrook Shire Library and Council, and representatives from GP One.

John Beatts, Arthur Cummins, William Markey

The Gilroy Santa Maria College World War 1 Project Link Club researched the 39 Soldiers and interviewed local descendants of the deceased WW1 Soldiers, working collaboratively with GP One to transfer the research data to a touchscreen format.
