In the last year, we have been busy expanding the content available on the Anzac Square Memorial Galleries website, with the addition of new quizzes, a virtual veteran and the Nasho’s Nominal Roll. With all this new content you might have missed that the Queensland War Memorial Register has also migrated to the Anzac Square website. We are proud to continue to make this rich resource widely accessible for all Queenslanders.

What is the Queensland War Memorial Register?
The Queensland War Memorial Register is dedicated to the memory of Queenslanders who were part of the Australian Armed Forces. The Register records sites that are sacred to the memory of those who served. It is designed to provide information for historians and to assist present and future generations to understand how the courage of Australia’s youth created a spirit and national identity for our country. The Register looks to document many types of memorials including cenotaphs, statues, obelisks, columns, gates, memorial buildings or facilities, avenues of trees and more.
Launched on Anzac Day 2009 the Register was an initiative of the Queensland Government and developed as a joint venture with the Queensland Branch of RSL, with the active participation of all local government authorities and with contributions from the community. The Department of Public Works maintained the Register from 2009-2014, with the Department of Environment and Science hosting the site from 2014-2023.
Now, State Library is the proud custodian of this important historical document. You can explore the register here: https://www.anzacsquare.qld.gov.au/queensland-war-memorials
