Before buying something, consider borrowing it from your local library. Libraries don’t only lend books, these days many public libraries also provide access to, magazines, toys, tools, seeds, and provide access to a wealth of free information. They also offer essential amenities like free Wi-Fi, public access computers and air conditioning, making them a comfortable and cost-effective space to spend time.

Modern libraries are digital powerhouses. With your free membership, you can access online newspapers, magazines, audiobooks, eBooks, games, and learning activities and books in multiple languages.

Libraries support lifelong learning with free access to thousands of bite-sized online courses in business, technology, and creative skills through platforms like LinkedIn Learning. You can also explore your family history through library access to Ancestry.

Many libraries also provide a range of community programs where you can join craft classes (image of Cricut craft activity at Corooy Library pictured), book clubs, or access maker spaces to create, or repair things saving money and connecting with others who share your interests.

They offer tech support, research assistance, book recommendations, and friendly conversation, without any pressure to spend.

Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKCs) also provide cultural resources, including books and recordings in traditional languages, helping you connect with heritage and community (image of Indigenous weaving activity at Corooy Library pictured).

For families, libraries are safe, welcoming spaces where children can read, play, and participate in holiday programs, reducing entertainment costs. Many libraries also have beautiful outdoor areas and mobile services that visit parks and playgrounds.
