Get Online Week 2018: increase your cyber safety confidence with the Be Connected program

By Anonymous | 9 March 2020

As more and more things in life move online, from social and leisure opportunities, to accessing day to day services, it is increasingly important to feel confident and savvy in using devices to get online. For those new to technology and the digital world, the initial curve of learning to, say, shop online is liberating and exciting. But this flurry of excitement can perhaps make us lose sight of the risks, however slight, which go with the use of online services.

Library networks across Queensland, Australia and the world, work towards empowering clients in interactions with the online world, including the important area of cyber safety. A current initiative in Australia, and soon to be offered via community partnerships with local libraries, is the Be Connected program. The program seeks to “enable all Australians to thrive in a digital world”. It does this via structured sessions conducted by partners, including local libraries, in the Be Connected Network.

However you don’t have to attend a session to access Be Connected training content. You can dive straight into Be Connected content from the comfort of your own home (or via your mobile device wherever you are). The topic content is very clear, accessible ad easy to understand, and includes an informative range of modules on Staying Safer Online.

So, if you haven’t thought much about cyber safety, or it’s been at the back of your mind and you’ve wondered where to start, try some modules today through Be Connected. If you find the content helpful, perhaps speak to your local library about becoming a Be Connected Community partner, to deliver some more guided sessions in your local community.
