5. Patricia Shannon recipe books

This collection contains two handwritten recipe books. The first, written by Alice Manon Archer (nee Manon) of Gracemere Station, Gracemere, was produced in the late 1800s. It contains an intimate insight to the culinary and social life of a Queensland woman, with recipes ranging from "mother's scones" to a cast of friends and neighbours like "Charlotte's Coffee Cake" and "Mrs. Smith's Scotch Apple Cake".

The second recipe book was written by Mildred Ida Lloyd Crombie (nee Hart) of Greenhills, Muttaburra. The date of book is estimated to be first half of 20th Century. Mildred Crombie was taught to cook by Amy Schauer. The book includes various newspaper clippings containing recipes for such curious delights as "paradise tart" and  "vegetable cream pie".
