First Nations military history video and webpage

State Library of Queensland has released the latest video and webpage in our Who’s Your Mob? First Nations family history research series.

The new video and webpage focus on military records, explaining what these records are, how they can help First Nations family history researchers, and where to look for different types of records.

The short video is an easy-to-understand introduction, giving an overview of material that we hold here at State Library and where else you may need to look to find information about your family members who served their country.

State Library collections include stories, photographs, blogs and memorabilia relating to First Nations service personnel. The new military records webpage includes helpful tips on how to search for material, and it also provides a downloadable list of published texts held by the library that are useful for First Nations military history research.

The military records webpage also links to Anzac Square and Memorial Galleries, which commemorate and showcase stories of First Nations service personnel.

Information about resources held by other organisations explains what types of records they hold, how to find them, and provides links for quick and easy access. This includes information about records held by:

  • National Archives of Australia
  • Australian War Memorial
  • Department of Veterans’ Affairs
  • Commonwealth War Graves Commission
  • Trove digitised newspapers, and
  • Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies (AIATSIS).
