The emotional and mental toll of end of financial year

Judy Sahay can't remember the last time she took a holiday.

The owner of Crowd Media Group says her relationships with her family, partner and friends have all been put under pressure by her focus on the digital agency, which turns over just under $3 million a year and employs 17 staff.

"I haven't spoken to my family in the last few weeks, this time of year in particular everyone is heads down and working," she says. "It's one of the most stressful times of the year. It has paid off but perhaps we could have done it better with the mental side of things. You don't want to get to a stage where you feel numb. You work really hard and once you achieve it you can't even celebrate it because you are so exhausted."

Sahay is not alone with research published on Friday by the Bank of Queensland showing more than a third of small business owners say the end of financial year is the most stressful time of the year. Of the 520 small business owners surveyed, 37.8 per cent said this time of year is particularly stressful.  Read more
