Every book has to earn its spot in one of the world’s leading public library collections.

The New York Public Library has one of the largest public collections in the world.

But, unlike Amazon, it does not have seemingly infinite storage. Every book must earn its place on crowded shelves and nothing gets there by accident.

Go behind the shelves in this  New York Times story to glimpse how New York Public Library researches and curates its collection.
