Deadly Brothers exhibition opens

By Administrator | 20 May 2013

Deadly Brothers exhibition is now open in kuril dhagun. It is an exhibition about Indigenous men who have made their name in music across a range of genres and ages from the 1940s to today; through opera, to rock, to electronic and more. Five main musicians/bands, whose inspiration is drawn from their culture, are thrown into the spotlight and presented through interviews, personal items, lyrics, ephemera and music itself.

We held a community preview on Friday 10 May, a day before the official launch of the library wide Live! Qld Band Culture. Our deadly brothers, their families, managers and other people who have helped to shape the exhibition were invited to a morning tea. We wanted to give them a chance to appreciate all the hard work that we have all put in before the jam packed festivities of the official launch. As the community entered the space they were greeted with an acoustic set by Skotti Hunter and Dimple Bani on guitar that made the space come alive and had everyone singing and tapping along. It was a really lovely bright morning. The views of the Brisbane river and CBD from kuril dhagun and the live entertainment provided us with a beautiful serene atmosphere. We invited Shannon Ruska to come along and give us a Welcome to Country before Katina, our curator, spoke about the exhibition and welcomed everyone to take a look, mingle and have a feed.

The music-packed sequel to the female-only Flash Women exhibition, Deadly Brothers provides an Indigenous perspective to the Live! Queensland band culture program. If you’re a music enthusiast like me, you will love the Live! program so make sure you check it out. Why not download the Live! app on your mobile phone so you don't miss out on anything? You can find it on your mobile app store.
