Changes at The Edge

By Michelle Brown | 4 July 2023

We’re making some changes at The Edge over the coming months, and we want to make sure we keep you updated as we progress. Some of these changes include moving furniture and equipment around to provide better access to creative resource.

There will be increased visibility of the activities being delivered and more emphasis on drop-in sessions. It is all directed towards emphasising the space for creativity, ideas and experimentation.

We'll be merging our Open lab and Digital Media Lab spaces to enhance access to the tools you need and to expand our make and design footprint. Some of the Digital Media Lab computers are moving out of the DML and into the River Lounge so you can enjoy the stunning River City while you work.

Starting in July, The Edge will offer access to its 3D printers for individuals with prior experience and we'll be streamlining our 3D printer induction. Additionally, these printers will be relocated to the window bays.

We are excited to enhance accessibility and enable creatives to reserve machine time beyond our regular Open Lab hours. If you're new to 3D modelling and printing, don't worry, support will still be provided during Open Lab sessions and the induction, and we encourage you to keep an eye out for our upcoming 101 Workshop sessions, where you can acquire the necessary skills to fully utilise The Edge resources.

Over the coming months we will also be upgrading our Wi-Fi and Internet access at the Library to offer wider coverage and a faster, more reliable and secure service.

We aim to keep any disruption to our facilities and services during this period to a minimum. We appreciate your patience, however value your feedback as we make these exciting changes.
