This year marks 150 years since the arrival of South Sea Islanders in Queensland. Today, more than 20,000 descendants identify as Australian South Sea Islanders and continue to enrich Queensland’s cultural diversity with their unique identity, spirituality and history.
Join Dr Kate Evans of ABC Radio National, Imelda Miller, Assistant Curator of Torres Strait Island and Pacific Indigenous Studies at Queensland Museum, and John Waldron, Curator of The Australian South Sea Islanders exhibition and Project Coordinator of ASSI 150 SEQ for their personal and professional experiences of telling sensitive, confronting, and powerful stories of Australian South Sea Islanders.
Find out more about Australian South Sea Islander commemorative events in August as part of Memories from a Forgotten People: 150 years of Australian South Sea Islander contributions to Queensland.
Please note - audience members will be required to cloak all bags to ensure the safety of State Library’s collections.
