Artists books from the beginning: a workshop with Susan King sponsored by the Siganto Foundation

By Christene Drewe | 17 April 2014

Twelve enthusiastic artists joined artist Susan King during the weekend of April 12-13 at the State Library of Queensland to discover the pleasure of using simple tools and structures to start making artists’ books.

Further inspiration was gained with a viewing of a selection of artists’ books from the ALA collection.

Work then began in earnest with projects presented by Susan. These included a concertina book with a torn upper edge, a flag book and simple signature sewn books. The creative minds of the group were able to adapt these structures into impressive artists’ books.

Thank you Susan for your exceptional contribution to the Siganto Foundation sponsored artists’ books series at the State Library of Queensland.

Success of the event can be measured by the group’s resolve to continue to meet at SLQ to make artists’ books!
