Helen is the Area Support Officer for Rolleston, and she knows that professional development is the key to the future of vibrant public library services. Read on to find out more about Helen’s time with Central Highlands Regional Council.

How did you first come to be part of the libraries?

The library became part of my job when I transferred from creditors in Springsure, Central Highlands Regional Council, to the Rolleston Transaction Centre.

Can you share a memorable story from your time in libraries?

A most memorable moment was when I was chasing a bird around the library from the back door to the front door (pressing auto button). After half an hour, bird and I were out!

What do you love most about libraries?

I enjoy not quite knowing what my day will bring. It is mainly dealing with friendly people.

What do you think libraries need to do next?

Libraries need to train all staff, giving the correct tools to carry out all our requirements and move into the future.

If you were a library manager what would be the number one thing you would do?

Train staff.
