5 minutes with Anthony Jarrett

Anthony Jarrett is a support worker with the Woorabinda Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC) and is new to library land. With the official opening of the new IKC building, Anthony has big plans, and he says networking is key to their success.

How did you first come to be part of the libraries?

Anthony became part of the Woorabinda IKC due to his interest in culture and reading.  He comes from a background of working with youth at the local school where the IKC was previously housed.

Can you share a memorable story from your time in libraries?

Being new to the Woorabinda IKC, getting the new building has been a highlight for Anthony to date. He also says he is particularly looking forward to the official opening to be held later this year, and to working with community members to help them trace their family history. “I enjoy helping people; putting them on to the right channels,” he enthused.

What do you love most about libraries?

Everything! Anthony loves the educational aspects of IKCs, and the opportunity to share resources with the community. “I love bringing the community together,” he says.

What do you think libraries need to do next?

Communication between IKCs is the next step, says Anthony. “It’s all about networking and relationship building. We need to know what each other is doing; help each other out.”

If you were a library manager what would be the number one thing you would do?

“Free Wi-Fi in all libraries,” Anthony says quickly. “And more networking opportunities.”
