Podcasts are the perfect companion for the busy library worker! It’s a digital audio file available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new instalments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.
They are useful for anyone who has to commute, do work around the house, walk dogs, or go to the gym. Podcasts are like talk shows or stories, that appear consistently (weekly to monthly) on your phone or portable media player. Users subscribe directly to a feed by providing the URL (uniform resource locator). A pod-catcher, or podcast client, is the computer program used to download media via an RSS (rich site summary or really simple syndication) or XML (extensible mark-up language) feed. Popular pod-catchers include iTunes, Stitcher and Podcast Addict. Podcatchers automatically download your selected podcasts as they are released so you don't have to access Wi-Fi. Then, when you are out and about, you can easily play an episode. They also auto delete after you listen to them.
