Using maps to reveal your family history story

Maps are much more than geographical tools; they are rich historical records that tell stories. They can reveal where our ancestors lived, document land ownership, and show how place names and local boundaries have changed over time. 

This webinar will explore why maps matter in family history research and introduce the different types of maps that are particularly useful for genealogy, including parish, cadastral, estate, topographic, and orthophoto maps. Through case studies and search tips, participants will learn how to navigate State Library’s map collections, trace an ancestor’s life through place and property records, and discover additional map resources available online and through other institutions.
