Under eights celebration day
Come explore State Library, brought to life for Under Eights Week, with a full day of hands-on activities, performances and playful experiences. With art making, storytelling, music workshops and quiet spaces to unwind, there’s something for every child to enjoy at their own pace.
While you’re here don’t miss The Corner, recently redeveloped with beautiful spaces to gather and connect, a dedicated art studio, giant building blocks, nooks for books and imaginations and a garden courtyard to explore, The Corner is purpose built for learning and play.
Stay for an hour or play the whole day. This is a relaxed and welcoming way to celebrate little Queenslanders as part of national Under 8’s week at State Library.
Program:
Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony
10am, The Corner Courtyard
The Buttery Music School

Circa drop in workshop

Children are invited to learn new skills, build confidence and try their hand at hula-hooping, juggling and more. Led by trainers from Circa Academy, the workshop encourages movement, creativity and imagination in a safe, supportive and non-competitive environment.
Make & Meld drop in wooden robot workshop
10 am – 2 pm, kuril dhagun
Perfect for under eights, this playful workshop invites young makers to safely explore real woodworking tools including hammers and screwdrivers as they build and decorate their own wooden robot character to take home. Focused on creativity, sustainability and STEAM learning, Make & Meld’s workshops inspire children to think like designers, work with their hands and become completely immersed in the joy of making.

11 am – 2 pm, kuril dhagun
Children and families are invited to learn traditional painting techniques and explore storytelling through art while decorating their own wooden boomerang to take home.
