Dragon Boat Festival celebration with Chinese Playgroup
Recommended all ages
Celebrate the joy, rhythm and traditions of the Dragon Boat Festival at this vibrant multicultural family event.
Families are invited to gather for an afternoon of storytelling, music, movement and creative play inspired by Dragon Boat Festival traditions. Together, we’ll drum, dance, craft and row our way through a fun-filled cultural experience.
Children can get creative with zongzi-inspired craft and colouring, fold and decorate their own paper boats, and then bring it all to life in a playful dragon boat racetrack, climbing into wheeled cardboard boats and “rowing” their way around a looping course.
The Dragon Boat Festival is a Chinese tradition that has been celebrated for over 2,000 years. It usually takes place in early summer and is known for colourful dragon boat races, music, and shared celebrations with family and community.
This program is presented by Play Matters Australia and supported by State Library of Queensland.
