Join us to hear local and interstate First Nations authors read their work, followed by an afternoon of delicious treats and live music.

On a day of celebration for Sovereign Stories – the brand-new showcase at State Library – what could be more special than listening to published work and works-in-progress of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander writers live? This literary salon, emceed by award-winning writer Dr Anita Heiss, will feature fresh and exciting words from emerging and established writers.

Reading live onstage will be Melissa Lucashenko, Samuel Watson, Tristan Michael Savage, Jasmin McGaughey, Allanah Hunt and Sachém Parkin-Owens. Joining them on the big screen will be readings by special guests Dr Jeanine Leane, Declan Fry and Nardi Simpson.

After the salon, move downstairs to kuril dhagun for afternoon tea with live music by Sah Ghee and Basoki of 2 Za Crowd. Enjoy refreshments and a cup of tea, meet the writers, and buy a book from The Library Shop pop-up, all while checking out the beautiful Sovereign Stories showcase in kuril dhagun.
