First Nations collections workshop (Years 4–6)

In a ‘show and tell’ format, students will discover State Library documents, images and objects to uncover the effects of colonisation from a First Nations perspective. Using both primary and secondary sources, they will explore the meaning of place and Country and consider how people shape the environments in which they live. Students will also examine the early sheep and cattle industries and discuss their profound impact on First Nations communities. 

Important information for teachers: 
People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent should be aware that the workshop may include images and names of deceased individuals. 

Workshop notes: 

  • This session is delivered via Microsoft Teams.
  • This session is a multi-school event, open to all schools for registration.
  • Each workshop will feature a selection of collection items appropriate for the year level of the students attending.
  • This workshop is presented by an Identified Schools Engagement staff member.
  • Bookings for this workshop close 30 minutes before the event.
