black&write!

About us

black&write! is a national project with a dual focus on developing First Nations writers and editors, through our Editing Internships and Writing Fellowships. We are the first project to do this in Australia.

Learn about our history through the Sovereign Stories Exhibition.

The Writing Fellowships

The black&write! Writing Fellowships are offered annually to Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander writers. Two Fellows will each receive $10,000, editorial development with the black&write! editing team, and a publication opportunity with Hachette Australia.

Applications for the 2023 black&write! Fellowships are now closed.

The Editing Internships

The black&write! Editing Internships recruit, train, and mentor Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander editors. Interns get hands-on editing experience while working on the winning Fellowship manuscripts.
