IKC eSports tournament

An exciting eSports Rocket League tournament is bringing a new wave of opportunity to remote First Nations communities in Queensland—helping participants develop digital skills, strengthen community connections, and explore pathways into technology and gaming careers.

Led by State Library of Queensland, in partnership with Veteran Gaming Australia (VGA) and 8 participating First Nations councils, the IKC eSports Tournament is the first of its kind in Queensland.

Digital skills and mentoring

Research shows that gaming lowers social barriers, builds real-world skills, and strengthens connections—especially for those in remote communities.

VGA brings unmatched expertise in eSports event delivery and mentoring through gaming. With a proven track record of supporting over 42,000 veterans and families, VGA combines tournament design, live streaming, and community engagement to create experiences that are fun, professional, and impactful.

Through this partnership, participants not only enjoy competitive gaming but also develop essential digital skills—from teamwork and communication to tech literacy and streaming know-how—building confidence and pathways into future opportunities.

How it works

The tournament is open to all ages and skill levels and will progress through three stages: local IKC qualifiers, followed by an inter-IKC league, and culminating in a Grand Final. Matches will be live-streamed, and participants will receive training and mentoring from VGA before and during tournament matches.

Joining the tournament

  • Sign-up to take part at your local IKC. You can form a team of 3 or come solo—your IKC will link you up
  • Look out for pre-match training sessions to build your Rocket League skills ready for competition day
  • The winning team will represent your community against other IKCs in the next round
