  • Where stories begin

Every story has a beginning

At State Library of Queensland, stories begin every day. We preserve cherished histories, amplify untold voices, and spark ideas that shape the future — opening doors to learning, discovery and reading for people of all ages across the state.

More than its collections, State Library is a place of exploration — where children discover the joy of stories, researchers uncover new perspectives, and communities connect with Queensland’s past, present and future.

But this work depends on support — and your impact is real. Your donation helps collect, preserve and share stories, bringing them to life for all Queenslanders.

Every story starts somewhere. Start one today.

Preservation and digitisation

Safeguarding the stories that define us

Queensland’s history lives in fragile films, recordings, letters and documents — many at risk of being lost forever. Through projects like Reel Rescue and the Colonial Secretary’s Correspondence, we preserve and digitise these collections — protecting them for future generations and making them accessible to all.

Your support ensures these stories are not lost, but shared.

The Corner

A place of discovery for every Queenslander

For over 20 years, The Corner has been a place where stories begin early, fostering connections and creative learning through the First 5 Forever program’s ‘talk, sing, read and play’. Now reimagined, it offers an even more engaging space where children can explore, create and grow — building the foundations for lifelong learning.

Your support keeps this space open, inclusive, and full of possibility for every family from the very start.

Schools engagement programs

Connecting stories across the state

Through our schools engagement programs — such as Live at the Library, Curriculum Connect, Young Researchers, and Fact or Fiction — we connect students in regional and remote Queenslanders to stories, learning and culture through live‑streamed experiences, educational programs and digital access. These programs build critical thinking skills, helping young people navigate information and recognise misinformation in a complex world.

Your support helps us reach more students — wherever they live.
