Statement: Daubney Review
In July 2025 the Library Board of Queensland appointed The Honourable Martin Daubney AM KC to undertake a review, the objective of which was “to strike a balance between the Minister’s priorities and expectations and the proper statutory role of State Library of Queensland, particularly as a publicly funded entity.”
The review was commissioned following the Ministerial Direction in relation to the 2025 black&write! Fellowship managed by State Library.
The Daubney Review was provided to the Library Board of Queensland in October 2025 and submitted to The Honourable John-Paul Langbroek MP Minister for Education and the Arts in November 2025.
On 5 March 2026 Minister Langbroek released the Daubney Review and its 5 key recommendations.
The Library Board of Queensland has accepted the Review recommendations. State Library has developed a framework to address the recommendations and has commenced implementation. This includes ceasing management of the Queensland Literary Awards on behalf of the Queensland Government.
