Children’s Week in The Corner

All families are invited to join our Play Matters Playgroups for a series of special events celebrating the many languages, cultures and traditions that are part of our community. Enjoy stories, music and special cultural experiences together, with activities led by our Spanish, Chinese and Indonesian playgroups. These special sessions are funded by Children's Rights Queensland and inspired by this year’s Children’s Week theme, “Children have the right to use their own language, celebrate their culture and practice their religion.” 

Stories, Songs and Language with Spanish Playgroup Saturday 24 October, 11am–12pm

Experience the joy of Spanish through stories, songs and language! Enjoy a special bilingual Spanish Storytime, then hear from our special guest, a Spanish-speaking speech pathologist, about children’s language development and the importance of sharing your first language at home to build connection, confidence and a love of language.

Panda Passport: Explore China! Saturday 31 October, 9.30am – 11am

Everyone is invited to become an intrepid explorer who travels through four exciting missions to discover Chinese culture, stories and traditions. Make a lucky Chinese knot, explore a giant interactive Forbidden City pop-up book, create a mooncake from clay, take on a chopstick treasure hunt and much more!

Discover the Angklung with Indonesian Playgroup Saturday 7 November, 11:00am -12:00pm 

What would an orchestra of bamboo instruments sound like? Discover the magical angklung, a traditional Indonesian instrument played by shaking. Hear a lively family performance, move along to the rhythms and try your hand at playing an angklung yourself as you discover Indonesian music and culture.
