Order a copy for individuals
Individuals can request a copy of items from State Library's collections. We offer low-resolution copies in PDF format for research and study, as well as high-resolution copies where available.
Before you submit a request, check our catalogue as many collection items can be downloaded free of charge, including high-resolution images where copyright allows.
If an item is not available to download, you can request a copy using our online forms.
If the item you need is not available in State Library's collections, we may be able to obtain a copy from another library through our inter-library loans service.
Some collection items may not be suitable for copying because of their condition, format or copyright restrictions. State Library staff will assess each request and determine whether an item can be copied before payment is requested. State Library reserves the right to determine if an item can be supplied as a copy.

State Library can provide research and reference quality copies of material from the Library’s collection including books, magazines and journal articles for your research and study accordance with the requirements in the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth.).
All copy requests are supplied in PDF format via email.

High resolution image file or print
State Library provides a service for you to order high resolution digital files or prints of items in the collection, according to requirements in the Copyright Act 1968 (Cth.)
You can also download many out of copyright digitised collections for free via the online tab in the One Search record.

Orders for audiovisual files should be made via the Audiovisual Order Form.
Prices
The prices below apply to audiovisual material that is already available in a digital format. If the material needs to be digitised from an analogue format (such as film, tape or other physical media), we will provide a custom quote before proceeding.

Definitions
Audio formats
- WAV: WAV provided by State Library is an uncompressed PCM audio format and used as a preservation format. Can be 16 bit or 24 bit, 48KHz or 96KHz; or 16 bit, 44.1 KHz for Audio-CD source).
- MP3: MP3 is a lossy compressed audio coding format - State Library uses MP3 as a derivative access audio format.
Video formats
- MP4: MP4 is a multimedia container format. State Library uses MP4 for containing derivative access video files.
Delivery
- USB: Flash memory storage device with a USB interface.
- Email (Digital Pigeon): Online service delivery of files requiring email address to access and download files.
State Library provides a service for ordering copies of collections from other Australian or international libraries.
