Past Christina Boughen OAM Fellows
The Christina Boughen OAM Fellowship is awarded to projects that explore Christina Boughen’s career and legacy using the Christina Boughen OAM and Robert Boughen OBE papers.
The fellowship recipient receives a stipend of $10,000,
The fellowship commemorates the life and career of Queensland musician Christina Boughen OAM.
The inaugural Christina Boughen OAM Fellowship was awarded to Juanita Simmonds for her project, Christina Boughen: A Queensland musical artist and woman.
Juanita's project aims to reveal Christina Boughen’s musicianship and artistry, as both concert curator and working pianist. The project will the explore the extent of repertoire required by her as an accompanist and soloist, and underline her importance as a professional Queensland musician, and role nurturing emerging musicians. Juanita hopes to show that despite the expectation that piano accompanists – and indeed, at that time, women and mothers in general – remain in the background, and so appear less important and noteworthy, Christina’s musicianship was valid artistic practice in its own right and confirms her deep commitment to musical excellence.
