Connecting you with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge and collections

Cultural Connect is a digital system providing a central access point for engagement with State Library of Queensland’s digital collections. Cultural Connect is delivered through the Keeping Culture knowledge management system, a website designed by and for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, ensuring the platform reflects Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems, cultural accuracy and integrity.

Cultural Connect enables Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to contribute knowledge, identify people and places to enrich collection records, ensuring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples voices help shape collection records, supporting more accurate and culturally informed descriptions. Launching with an initial release of 1300 photographs, with content to continue to grow over time.

This website supports the digital return of cultural materials to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities, data sovereignty and State Library’s Indigenous Cultural and Intellectual Property (ICIP) considerations with cultural protocols guiding access and use, including appropriate restrictions for culturally sensitive material.

Cultural Connect reflects State Library’s ongoing to working in partnership with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to preserve, share and care for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge, ensuring communities remain at the centre of Queensland’s living heritage collections.

Cultural Connect is generously supported by Gina Fairfax AC and Tim Fairfax AC through the Queensland Library Foundation.

Acknowledgement

Where appropriate, access to some items may be subject to restrictions. State Library apologises for any distress caused.
