Rural Libraries Queensland and Indigenous Knowledge Centre collections

Rural Libraries Queensland (RLQ) and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKC) have a core collection from State Library that equals at least one book per person living in your council region. The physical collections are exchanged regularly and can be supplemented on requests with special collections to meet your needs. Eresources are provided specifically to support rural and indigenous communities. 

RLQ and IKC physical collections

Library collections at RLQ and IKC provide a balanced, appealing, high quality range of resources, including popular, bestselling and enduring works, and includes:

  • Adult fiction and non-fiction books
  • Large type books, for clients with a visual impairment, but available for use by all.
  • DVDs, including feature films, television series and documentaries for adults and children.
  • Picture books and beginner readers
  • Junior fiction and non-fiction books
  • Young adult fiction, including popular television tie-ins and teenage fiction series

RLQ and IKC eresources

Audiobooks, ebooks, and magazines are available online to members of Rural Libraries Queensland (RLQ) and Indigenous Knowledge Centres (IKC). Some platforms may require library members to set up a free account to access content, and many also have free downloadable apps so you have access to collections when you need them most.  

The QLD Libraries app gives RLQ and IKC members easy access to the RLQ library catalogue. Search, place reserves, manage loans, and more. It also provides direct links to RLQ ebook, eaudiobook, and emagazine collections from Borrowbox and OverDrive. You can also easily connect to all eresources on the go.  

Getting started

  • Download and launch the QLDLibraries app (Google Play) (Apple App Store) 
  • Click on menu in top right corner
  • Scan or enter your library barcode
  • Enter your pin/password

BorrowBox includes many of the latest Australian titles as ebooks and eaudiobooks. RLQ and IKC members can download up to 4 titles every 14 days.  

Getting started

  • Download and launch the BorrowBox Library app (Google Play) (Apple App Store)
  • Select Library; type rural; then select Rural Libraries Queensland 
  • Enter your library card number and PIN 
  • Review the Terms and Conditions then select agree if you would like to proceed
  • Enter your email address and adjust the optional settings then select Done 

You can also access BorrowBox online at the Borrowbox website using your library membership.

OverDrive ebooks, eaudiobooks and emagazines are availabel to RLQ and IKC members include the latest fiction and popular titles. Library members can borrow up to 10 titles at a time. Magazines do not count toward checkout limits.

Getting started

  • Download and launch the Libby by OverDrive app (Google Play) (Apple App Store)  
  • Follow the setup wizard. Select: 1. Yes   2. I’ll Search For A Library
  • Type rural libraries
  • Select Queensland Regional OverDrive Consortium  
  • Select Rural Libraries Queensland library card number, then PIN  
  • Select Next

OverDrive for Teens

  • OverDrive for Teens, a curated reading room for teens with hundreds of books and magazines to download. 

OverDrive for Kids

Story Box Library is an online platform of narrated ebooks for children with interactive storytelling features. Content is mainly by Australian and new Zealand authors and narrators. Copyright allows screening of the website for public within the public library setting. Activity sheets accompanying the stories are useful for home use and library programming. 

Stories are selected with children of pre-school and primary age in mind. Stories have been broken down into the following categories: Pre-school (3-5 yrs), Lower primary (5-7 yrs), Middle primary (8-10 yrs), and Upper primary (10-12 yrs).

Getting started

  • Download and launch the StoryBox app (Google Play)(Apple App Store)
  • Select Rural Libraries Queensland and Indigenous Knowledge Centres in the 'Select a Library' menu.
  • For 'public library card barcode number' and 'library catalogue pin/password' fields, enter the same details you use to access your library catalogue to login OR
  • For only the 'public library card barcode number' field, enter your library barcode and click 'log in', then confirm your details on the next page to register your individual account
