Pig City: Brisbane's Historic Soundtrack Concert (2007)
On July 14, 2007, Pig City: Brisbane's Historic Soundtrack concert was held at University of Queensland's St Lucia campus. Part of the Queensland Music Festival, the concert was inspired by Andrew Stafford's book Pig City: from the Saints to Savage Garden, which documents Brisbane's music scene from the 1970s through to the 2000s.
A cavalcade of performers, past and present, took to the stage, including legendary Brisbane punk rock group The Saints, Regurgitator, The Riptides, David McCormack from Custard, The Apartments, Screamfeeder, Kev Carmody, The Ups and Downs, Pineapples From The Dawn Of Time, Unkle Fats and the Parameters and Kate Miller-Heidke backed by the Brisbane Excelsior Band.
UQ News in their August 2007 issue reported approximately 6,000 fans attended the concert. Among the crowd were several well-known identities including author Nick Earls, Hoodoo Gurus guitarist Brad Shepherd, Go Between Robert Forster and Triple J presenter Myf Warhurst.
State Library of Queensland's photographers Reina Irmer and Leif Ekstrom were present throughout the event capturing images of the performers, the stalls and the crowd. Here is a sample of some of the image taken by Reina and Leif. You can peruse the full collection (355 images) via our One Search catalogue.
