Queensland Day for Little Queenslanders

6 June 2024 | State Library of Queensland

Queensland Day celebrates the day Queensland officially separated from New South Wales as an independent, settled colony in 1859.

Commemorated annually on 6 June, Queensland Day is intended as a celebration of our state’s culture and heritage, and an opportunity to reflect on what Queensland means to you and what makes you proud to be a Queenslander — whether it be your people, places, opportunities, lifestyle, your culture, language and connection to country.

To celebrate with your little Queenslanders, why not head down to your local library and borrow one of the Stories for Little Queenslanders

The Stories for Little Queenslanders is a fun series of 12 picture books for children 0-5 years featuring local places, cheeky animals and interesting characters. The books were created by State Library of Queensland and First 5 Forever, and feature Queensland by authors and illustrators with a connection to Queensland.

And remember, you’re never too young to be a member of the library – you can sign your little Queenslander up from birth.
