Family picnic and engaging with little one

Picnics are fun for the whole family

28 April 2020 | State Library of Queensland

Picnics aren’t just for teddy bears!

Make lunchtime into an adventure by having a picnic in your backyard. You might like to involve your child in the planning. Make a list of all of the things that you might need, like a blanket, some pillows and of course some books.

Involve them in the food preparation. They might help spread butter on the bread or pack some fruit or biscuits.

You can even make it feel like a real picnic by going on a journey to get there, even if this is just a walk around the house.

One of the best things about eating outside is the view. Look up, look down and look all around, and talk to your little one about the things you can see, like the clouds in the sky. I wonder what shapes they can see?
