Cairns story walk

A passport to wellbeing

5 June 2025 | State Library of Queensland

What surrounds us shapes us.

For babies and young children, the experiences and environments in their early years impact their developing brain. It is so important for children to have opportunities to learn, have fun and be curious in welcoming, safe spaces.

Libraries across Queensland are creating these opportunities every day through their First 5 Forever programs, but First 5 Forever doesn’t just happen inside the library. First 5 Forever is popping up at local parks, swimming pools, shopping centres, hospitals and even Bunnings, as libraries find new and playful ways to reach families where they spend their time together.

Fraser Coast Libraries recently created a Playtime Passport with 24 activities to ignite curiosity by exploring local beaches, parks, gardens, galleries, attractions and library branches.

Other libraries are bringing stories to life in nature with Story Walks, so families can connect to the environment AND storytelling at the same time. Keep an eye out for the much loved Stories for Little Queenslanders as they pop up in parks around the state.
