How will you celebrate National Families Week?
10 May 2022 | State Library of Queensland
National Families Week is held every year between 15 - 21 May. Over 100,000 people get involved in hundreds of community events in Australia’s biggest celebration of families in all their diversity. Over 130,000 people register to attend events around Australia from Thursday Island to the bottom of Tasmania alone!
National Families Week is an initiative of Families Australia. It’s a time for your family to celebrate, connect with extended family and friends, and share in the enjoyment of family activities within the wider community. Take some time to celebrate the meaning of family and to make the most of family life.
Theme
This year's National Families Week theme is ‘Stronger Families, Stronger Communities’. This theme continues to highlight the important role families play as the central building blocks of our communities and deliver the message that community wellbeing is enhanced by family wellbeing.
Celebration ideas
- Organise a family get-together so your little ones can talk and play with family members they're already close or or are yet to meet
- Take a look through your photo albums with your little ones and talk about the family members pictured
- Borrow some books from your local library about family and community
- Have your little one draw or paint a picture of their family
- Attend a National Families Week event with your children
- Explain to your little one that families come in all shapes and sizes - some families are big, some are small, some live close together, some live far apart etc.
