Family fun at your local library

31 May 2021 | State Library of Queensland

Libraries are fun spaces filled with books and activities for families to enjoy. From joining other families for stories and rhymes, to borrowing new books to take home, there’s a world of discovery waiting for you – and it’s free! Find your local library or Indigenous Knowledge Centre to see what's on in your area.

First 5 Forever sessions

Join the fun of free Story Time, Rhyme Time and Baby Play sessions. You’ll love learning new nursery rhymes to sing with your little one or discovering some new stories to share. Don’t worry – they’re designed especially for children 0-5 so if your baby is a bit noisy or your toddler won’t sit still, you’ll be joining families and library staff who completely understand! Everyone is welcome.

There are lots of different sessions at your local library and they'll be happy to let you know about all the wonderful activities they offer for families.

Spaces for play

Your little one will love discovering special places to play or share stories in, and your local library might have some fun games or toys to play with too. The children’s section is bright and colourful so make yourself at home and stay for as long as you like.

Borrow books to share

Has your child got a sudden interest in diggers? Or koalas? Head to the library to find some books on their newfound favourite thing! If you don’t know where to start just ask the friendly staff to point you in the right direction for what you’re after. You can also explore picture books and snuggle up in a quiet corner to read them at the library, or borrow them and take them home to share.

It’s free to join

It’s free to join your local library and kids can have their own cards too. Even the tiniest of babies can become members and have their very own library card!
