Discover the Stories for Little Queenslanders series

Get to know some new friends and spark your child’s love of reading with our series of books for Queensland’s littlest readers. There are 12 to discover, and you’ll meet quirky characters doing funny things, go on amazing adventures in familiar Queensland places, and find cheeky animals to make you laugh and smile.

A sense of community and belonging 

Your child’s brain is growing quickly, and they’re working on building important language and communication skills (not to mention that special connection with the important grown-ups in their life!).  

They’re also starting to have a sense of who they are and where they belong in the world around them. Seeing themselves in the stories they read helps to build their sense of belonging and identity.  

The excitement they feel in spotting places they’ve been, or people who remind them of their family, friends and communities, is a wonderful thing to experience. There’s lots of fun to be had in enjoying stories about familiar animals doing funny things (“koalas don’t do that!”) or recognising a familiar experience or place. 

The wonderful benefits of shared reading 

Snuggled up at bedtime, waiting for a coffee or an appointment, or using a new story to soothe a tantrum: books can be the perfect thing to turn to at any number of moments during your busy day. 

If you already share books together regularly, you’ll love having some new stories to share, especially when they’re packed with familiar places and cheeky local animals and characters. If reading together regularly is something you’re working on, the series is a great place to start!

Authors and illustrators with connections to Queensland 

The books in the series were created by local talent especially for children aged 0-5.  

Some of the authors and illustrators are well-known industry names, but for others this is the first time they’re seeing their name on the cover of a book. 

You’ll love diving into their work and admiring the quirky stories or stunning illustrations they’ve worked so hard on.
