The Corner at Home Activities: Exploring Colours

7 July 2020 | State Library of Queensland

Colour Exploration Activity

Hello and welcome to The Corner at Home Activities. In today's activity we are learning all about the different colours that we can see in the world and environment around us. Do you have a favourite colour?

Kids - big and little, process complex information when we are engaged in play and having fun, so let’s put on our best imaginative, playful hats together.

Let’s get started! Today, join Alarna on a colourful exploration in her backyard and at home, to learn about all the colours of the rainbow. We will encourage children to document their discoveries by interacting in a fun and friendly open-ended play activity, making suggestions along the way to document colours and connect through matching and counting games to create the opportunity for conversation with your little one.

Enjoy the fun of exploring colour in your home

What equipment and materials are needed?

Use materials and objects found in your home environment:

  • Egg carton or baking cups

  • paint

  • coloured pencils or crayons

  • collection of coloured items such as beads, button, ribbon pen lids or toys.
