Celebrating 10 years of belonging

11 February 2025 | State Library of Queensland

What surrounds us shapes us.

For babies and young children, the experiences and environments in their early years impact their developing brain. It is so important for children to know where and with whom they belong – their family, culture and community – to be able to carry and build upon this sense of identity throughout their lives.

We share diverse cultures, languages, identities, traditions and beliefs across Queensland, and the library is a place where everyone in the community is welcome, and their cultures and identities are celebrated. Recently, Banana Shire Libraries even brought their library to the families in a nearby park so they could reach and connect with the many multicultural families through First 5 Forever.

Where in the World is Story Time Today? brings these families together to experience language, songs, stories, games and food from the different countries that make up the community. Thank you Banana Shire Libraries for creating the space to celebrate culture and identity with your community.

This year we’re celebrating ten years of First 5 Forever in Queensland!

That’s ten years of talking, reading, singing and playing with babies, young children and their families to help build and protect the brains of our littlest Queenslanders.

Whether you’ve discovered First 5 Forever at your local library or on our website, you will know that we’re all about creating opportunities for families and caregivers to support their child’s learning, development and wellbeing through free, fun, playful experiences.
