Bedtime Story Time | Up and down on a rainy day

11 June 2021 | State Library of Queensland

After a big day of play it's time to get into your PJs and snuggle up for Story Time. Join Mari as she reads Up and down on a rainy day, written by Kathryn Apel and illustrated by Janet Turner. Feeling sleepy? Join Nadia Sunde for a sweet song that celebrates home, inspired by Once I munched a mango written by Samantha Wheeler and illustrated by Shannon Horsfall. Both stories are from our "Stories for Little Queenslanders" series.

The song and story in this video are accompanied by an Auslan interpreter.

You can also listen to more songs by Nadia Sunde inspired by "Stories for Little Queenslanders".

Benefits of singing with your little one

Singing at transition times like before naps or bedtime can be soothing for your little one.

Singing also slows language down and provides rhyme and repetition, allowing children to start developing their awareness of relationships between letters and sounds.

And remember - your child loves the sound of your voice, even if you are worried you can't sing!
